About CBT
CBT is one of the main traditions in counselling and psychotherapy and
is designed to help create change when change feels difficult.
In sessions, we explore together the difficulties you are experiencing
in order to understand how you find yourself reacting
when facing problems and challenges.
We then begin to identify specific steps you can take to start making changes.
For example, how we think about ourselves or our situation
affects how we feel and act so in sessions
we will explore approaches to thinking about your situation
that will help you deal with the difficulties you are experiencing
including how to overcome the influence of unhelpful or negative thinking
which can be easy to get caught up in at difficult moments.
Equally, our feelings influence our thinking and motivate our behaviour
so it's important that we work on helping you recognise and manage the feelings that arise at difficult moments.
How we feel and think is also affected by how we act
so we will work on helping you let go of habits or behaviours
that are having a negative impact and focus your energies
on taking action to create the changes you want to make.
There are different types of CBT and the types that I specialise in
are: Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),
Cognitive Therapy (CT) and Mindfulness-Based CBT.
This combination provides a wide range of approaches that I will adapt
to suit your specific situation so that we find the way forward
that works best for you.
These approaches are based on extensive research have been shown
to be effective for addressing many issues.
